Girl Meets Stem

Hi everyone,

Disney Channel's TV show Girl Meets World came out with an episode called "Girl Meets STEM".  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  The episode showed how girls often lose interest in STEM subjects.  The episode followed Riley and her friends in science class, they were all paired of in boy/girl combos.  The experiment was to have one partner drop a marble into the beaker and the other partner would figure out the substance in the beaker.  Everyone had relegated the girls to dropping the marble while the boys figured out the substance, which was the more substantial part of the experiment.

Riley was unhappy with the situation and wanted everyone to realize that girls can do anything boys do.  Riley wanted to be able to understand her full potential.  She argued that if she didn't have the chance to understand science how could she explore her potential of possibly becoming a scientist.  It turned out that the experiment was supposed to show that no matter what you do, girls and boys should be equal.  This episode showed that girls are in charge of their own destiny and instead of working at a company they should try to run the company.  Even though you don't have a big interest in science you should try because you never know if you'll fall in love with it.

Girl Meets World tackled a big issue that is happening in our world today.  Why do girls grow uninterested in STEM subjects?  Why do we have to fight to be equal to men?  It's time we start thinking out of the box that society puts us in.  Think about starting your own company, becoming a scientist, an artist, an astronaut, run a fashion line, run a television station.  No matter what you want to do or where you want to go, be the best you can be.  They say the best revenge is to be successful and prove them wrong.   Explore your full potential because you never know what you're capable of.

XOXO
